Your argumentative skills are so wonderful. Have you done any public social issue debates? You should certainly try going to protests and things for different (more publicly accepted) social controversies, such as gay marriage(assuming you support it). I really just wanted to say thank you for having this blog and trying to open eyes. I'm always always always trying to open my mind where I can and this blog has helped so much on my quest :)

You mean like debates in person? Haha, nooooo. I have a significantly harder time expressing myself with spoken words. I can’t even convincingly read a scripted argument I wrote.

You should certainly try going to protests and things for different (more publicly accepted) social controversies,

I went down to my local #OWS chapter a few times, but I’m not particularly effective in that environment.

I’d be happy to lend support to other causes online, but becoming one of many advocates for a particular cause at the expense of time advocating for my cause (a cause with far less advocates) doesn’t really seem appealing to me.

I do speak about other issues casually with friends (such as Marriage Equality, the war on drugs, and the militarization of law enforcement), but my audience is typically sympathetic.

What I AM doing is defending myself against hate speech by countering inflammatory rhetoric with logic and reason.

Unlike my opposition, I do not resort to personal attacks, name calling, or violent rhetoric. Unlike my opposition, I want to engage in a discussion that leads to both sides being understood.

A quick search of Amazon reveals 0 items titled “Phonics: Learn to Read”. (Perhaps you meant Hooked on Phonics: Learn to Read.)

When people say things like ‘oh if homosexuality is okay, then we may as well legalize bestiality and accept pedofiles’ or whatever.

It shows that they don’t understand what is wrong about those things. And that just seems so fucking revealing about how their morality works. If it isn’t the fact that children and animals are vulnerable and can’t consent, if it’s not rape that’s wrong, then what?
it’s like they think those things are wrong because they’re disgusting or unnatural or offend sensibilities or cause people say so. Like morality to them is just a matter of what squicks them personally and not whether somebody is violated and abused.

People who use child and animal abuse as an excuse to discriminate against consenting adults are irrational at best. You are right. They don’t understand. They don’t want to understand.

However, I do have one thing to disagree with here… You seem to object to the notion of accepting pedophiles. I suppose that is a common enough sentiment when faced with that type of argument, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Not all pedophiles abuse children. Many, like me, can (and do) lead law-abiding lives. It is entirely possible to accept pedophiles as people — people with an attraction/orientation they did not choose — people with the responsibility and capability of acting ethically, like anyone else. You can accept us as people and still condemn child abuse and those who perpetrate it. (In fact, non-pedophiles make up a significant portion of those who sexually abuse children. Rape is primarily about power, not sexual attraction.)

Anyway, I don’t expect you to change your argument, I just want you to see that they are even more wrong than you gave them credit for.
